Physical Abuse

Physical abuse is perhaps a type of abuse we all recognise, and it’s often harder to hide by someone who suffers this type of abuse, though not always. This list is not exhaustive by any means.

Forms of physical abuse are:

  • Punching,
  • Kicking,
  • Slapping,
  • Pushing
  • Strangulation
  • Stabbing
  • Shoving

The abuser might use their fists, and or might use weapons or any object to hand such as irons, crowbars, knives, hammers, chairs etc.

Often physical abuse start with small actions such as a push or a shove, but, with time, in abusive relationships, they can turn into extremely violent assaults where there is a risk of death or long-term disability. Often, other types of abuse such as financial, emotional abuse and coercive control happen before physical abuse.
